Martha Hall Findlay Leadership Campaign
Dear Ms. Findlay,
Re: “We have to take our heads out of the sand”
I am very impressed by what you had to say when you visited Saskatoon on Monday, 28 January 2013. We certainly need to reform our archaic laws that criminalize marijuana, to improve our health care system by allowing some private delivery, and to repeal the discriminatory Indian Act. I applaud your statement:
In launching your leadership campaign in Calgary, you spoke of a country that “needs a government with a different kind of courage.”2 If you have the kind of courage to be “truly honest, transparent and accountable to Canadians” and were willing to apply evidence-based principle to the Liberals’ 1995 Firearms Act, I believe you would see the glaring need to repeal this unjust legislation that made the mere possession of a firearm a criminal offence.3
A sincere commitment from the Liberals to “take their heads out of the sand” by a pledge to repeal the Firearms Act and decriminalize the possession of firearms for self-protection would be a major step forward in renewing the Liberal Party as a viable voting option for many responsible firearms owners.
I would welcome the opportunity to discuss this with you.
