Dear Mr. Hudson
Thank you for taking the time to write to me regarding the long gun registry and the Firearms Act.
Our Conservative Government has been clear that we have consistently opposed the wasteful and ineffective long gun registry, which does nothing to keep guns out of the hands of criminals. This is why we are working to abolish the long gun registry. It is an issue we campaigned on in the last election, and it remains one of our priorities.
In regard to the Firearms Act, I wanted to clarify a few points. The Conservative Party has never claimed to want to repeal the Firearms Act. We campaigned on the issue of the long gun registry only, and this is what we are doing right now. There are 4 more years in our mandate, and we will look at other issues in due course.
Canadians gave our Government a strong mandate to end the long gun registry once and for all, and that is exactly what we will do.
Thank you again for taking the time to write to me. Please do not hesitate to contact my office if you have any questions.
