The Honourable Ralph Goodale

Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness

House of Commons

Ottawa, Ontario K1A 0A6

Dear Minister Goodale,

Congratulations on your reelection as a Member of Parliament and your appointment to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's Cabinet. As our new Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness, you astutely noted:

"Canadians repeatedly said that they expect the government to keep them safe - and also expect their government to respect civil liberties."(1)

Our Association consists of responsible firearms owners who have chosen publically to refuse to apply to the federal Government for a licence to posses a firearm to protect our families, our property, and ourselves [Please see copy of letter dated 25 October 2015 to Prime Minister Trudeau, enclosed]. We are encouraged that you understand the importance of the respect for civil liberty.

We were also greatly encouraged to note that after Mr. Trudeau took the oath of office, he reiterated his declaration that:

We are a government that wants to earn Canadians’ trust by demonstrating that we trust Canadians.”(2)

For this new Government to demonstrate effectively its trust in Canadians, it will require some major effort. Stephen M.R. Covey, author of "How the Best Leaders Build Trust," contends that:

"the ability to establish, grow, extend, and (where needed) restore trust among stakeholders is the critical competency of leadership needed today.”(3)

Mr. Goodale, as a previous cabinet minister you are in a unique position to restore that vital element of trust between Government and responsible unlicenced firearms owning Canadians.

As you once again enter Cabinet, I trust that you will work diligently to restore our civil liberty to own firearms for personal self-defence by repealing the Firearms Act.

Sincerely,

Edward B. Hudson DVM, MS

Secretary

CC: Prime Minister Justin Trudeau
