Salpie Stepanian, Assistant to the Prime Minister
Dear M. Stepanian,
Re: My Enclosed Letter to Prime Minister Harper on his Promise to Repeal the Firearms Act
I would like to request a big favour of you if I may.
Mr. Harper promised Canadians that he would the repeal the entire Firearms Act and replace that unconstitutional law with just, effective legislation.
The Firearms Act and the concurrent changes to the Criminal Code make the mere possession on a firearm a criminal offense. Under Mr. Harper’s recently passed Bill C-19, “Ending the Long-gun Registry Act”, the mere possession of a firearm is still illegal. Thus, Mr. Harper has failed completely in fulfilling his promise on this most vital issue of armed self-defense.
Perhaps more noteworthy, by only “ending the long-gun registry” Mr. Harper fails egregiously in implementing the Firearms Policy of the Conservative Party of Canada. That Policy adopted after full, open discussion at the Montreal Convention in March 2005, directs the Government to provide legislation that respects “the Rights of law-abiding Canadians to own and use firearms responsibly.”
I have written on multiple occasions to Mr. Harper requesting that he keep his promise to Canadians on firearms. In response to one of my recent letters you replied:
I ask that you note in my enclosed letter that I am addressing concerns about the actions – or more specifically the lack thereof – of the Prime Minister, not to one of his ministers.
Hence, the favour that I ask of you:
I would greatly appreciate your consideration.
