Dear Mr. Wyant,

Congratulations on your appointment as Minister of Justice and Attorney General. I trust that your transition to your new office and increased duties has been manageable.

Our Constituency would like to request your assistance in moving forward on Saskatchewan Party Policy JS10-1. Amending The Saskatchewan Human Rights Code, Part 1, Bill of Rights:

Be it resolved that a Saskatchewan Party Government shall amend the current
Saskatchewan Human Rights Code to enshrine the individual’s Right to own property.

This Policy is of vital importance to our members. We have been extremely disappointed in the lack of action by the former Minister of Justice.

In March Saskatchewan Party President Gary Meschishnick advised us:

Our Justice Department was looking at the issues that arose with this potential legislative amendment. The problems are complicated because of the uncertainly in the scope of the Resolution. I am now advised that enacting a legislative change to give life to this policy is not practical in its present form.

I am further advised that because of these problems that the constituency of Saskatoon South East will be bringing forth a Resolution at our next convention to amend this resolution. I will keep you posted on developments.
We do not regard this an acceptable response to a Policy duly and properly passed at Convention. Our Constituency went to considerable efforts to confer with all appropriate levels of the Party before we presented the basis resolution to the Convention.

We do not regard the “scope” of the Policy as “uncertain” in any form. The Policy is straightforward in scope; to provide protection for the individual’s Right to own personal property.

As we specifically pointed out in our background material in support of the basic Resolution, this Policy corrects the severe defect in property protection inflicted upon Saskatchewan citizens by a series of NDP governments (please see enclosed).

We trust that you will ensure that this Policy becomes a central item for the fall sitting of the Legislative Assembly. We would appreciate receiving your assurances within two weeks.

Sincerely,

Edward B. Hudson, DVM, MS
